Winter Wilderness Therapy

Seasonal change can impact mental health, physical health, and overall well-being. Outpatient nature-based interventions during the winter months can help clients with the isolation of winter months and with seasonal affective and mood changes.

Beginning with a brief overview of wilderness therapy, join Snowy Lajoie, LCSW-R , KMOG in an exploration of current research on the benefits of nature-based interventions and the impact of seasonal changes on mental health. Topics explored will include co-creating a safe space in nature during the colder months; mindfulness in nature; specific strategies for working with individuals and groups in winter, including fire-making and basic survival strategies; and how to prepare oneself for working safely in wilderness spaces in all types of weather.

2 CEs / 2 hours

2 CEs available to NYS LMHCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, LMSWs, LCATs, NYS Licensed Psychologists, and NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts provided by Hudson Valley Professional Development, LLC upon successful completion of training.
